WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield boys golf team stands in sixth place after the first leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament, which was held Friday at The Ridges Golf Course.
Brandon Brown led the Tigers with an 89 and teammates Evan Schneider and Ben Streckert were close behind with 90s. Josh Berres added a 91 and Kyle Hoffman had a 101.
Larry Wetzel of D.C. Everest grabbed the individual lead with a medalist round of three-over par 75, one shot better than Stevens Point’s Ryan Hofmeister and two shots ahead of Dan Spear of Wausau East.
The second leg of the seven-event tournament is scheduled for Tuesday at Wausau Country Club.
On Saturday, the Tigers competed at the Sparta Invitational and took seventh in Division 1.
Evan Schneider led the Tigers with an 81 to tie for 15th place. He was followed by three freshmen – Josh Berres (87), Craig Serchen (89) and Ian Pillai (91).
Middleton junior Mitch Johnson led all golfers with a sparkling 69.
