Loyal whips Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball

LOYAL – Loyal scored 14 runs in the first inning and never looked back, clubbing Marshfield Columbus Catholic 23-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Wednesday.

Columbus had eight hits, three by Brandon Nikolai, who knocked in five runs, but was hurt by seven errors and Loyal’s 18 hits. Columbus pitchers Issac Welsh and Alex Baierl combined for seven walks.

Bryce DeSmet added two hits and an RBI, and Paul Selz had a double and scored twice for the Dons.

The Dons (1-4 overall and Cloverbelt East) play at Gilman on Thursday.
