Unbeaten Gilman sweeps doubleheader from Columbus Catholic baseball

GILMAN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team dropped a pair to Gilman on Thursday, losing 17-7 and 11-1 in a pair of Cloverbelt Conference East Division games.

The Dons fall to 1-7 overall and in the Cloverbelt East, while Gilman remains undefeated and improves to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference.

Gilman scored six runs in the first inning of the opening game and scored in each of the six innings, capping the game via the 10-run rule with a run in the sixth.

Brandon Nikolai continued his hot hitting of late, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the opener for the Dons. Justin Edwards also had two hits and three RBIs for Columbus.

In the second game, Gilman used an eight-run fourth inning to blow open a tight game.

Paul Selz had both of Columbus’ hits in the loss. He had a single and double and an RBI, knocking in Charlie Mayeux with a hit in the fourth inning.

Columbus hosts Neillsville on Friday.
