AUBURNDALE – Auburndale rallied with three runs over the final two innings but came up just short, losing to Pittsville 5-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game on Friday at Auburndale High School.

Pittsville led 5-0 after scoring two runs in the first inning and three more in the third against Auburndale pitcher Troy Kollross.

Kollross settled down after that, tossing four shutout innings, and the Apaches tried to comeback late.

Jake Schar drove in a run in the sixth and Kyle Willfahrt had a two-run single in the seventh but the Apaches couldn’t come up with any more.

Kollross, Tony Altmann, Willfahrt, Schar and Tyler Breu each had two hits for Auburndale, which had 12 hits in all.

Auburndale falls to 0-8 overall and in the Marawood South, while Pittsville improves to 11-2 and 7-2 in conference.

On Thursday, Auburndale lost 8-2 to Marathon.

Marathon used a five-run fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and go on to the win.

Jesse Brokish, Blake Anderson, Ben Bolder and Kollross each had a single to account for the Apaches four hits. Bolder and Anderson each had an RBI.

Auburndale plays at Stratford on Monday.
