GREENWOOD – Greenwood used an eight-run second inning in Game 1 and had three three-run innings in the second game as it swept Marshfield Columbus Catholic 13-1 and 11-1 in a pair of Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball games Friday.
Columbus was held to four hits in the opener by Greenwood pitchers Derek Starland and Kale Hinker. Hinker struck out six to earn the win.
In Game 2, Greenwood scored three runs in the first, second and fifth innings, and added two in the fourth to earn the win.
Brandon Herr tossed a complete game, striking out nine and allowing six walks and two hits for Greenwood.
Columbus (2-11 overall and Cloverbelt East) plays a doubleheader at Augusta on Monday and hosts Spencer on Tuesday.
Greenwood remains unbeaten in the Cloverbelt East, improving to 15-0 and 16-1 overall. The Indians can clinch the conference title with a win at Gilman on Thursday.
