MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest stopped Marshfield’s Wisconsin Valley Conference win streak at three, shutting out the Tigers 3-0 in a girls soccer game Tuesday at Griese Park.

D.C. Everest maintains its lead on top of the WVC standings, improving to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the Valley. The Tigers fall to 10-6, 6-4 in the WVC.

Gina Widmer scored at the 15:41 mark and Hayley Tobalsky followed with a goal 5 minutes before halftime to give the Evergreens 2-0 lead at the break.

Despite the deficit, Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said he felt good about the Tigers’ play.

“The two goals were direct results of mistakes and it could have easily have been 0-0,” Lindner said. “It was a good first half and as we stressed we need to eliminate mistakes as we play good quality teams.”

Mali Theiss scored D.C. Everest’s final goal in the second half.

Marshfield was outshot 16-8, with Kassi Todryk recording nine saves in goal for the Tigers. Monica Mynsberge had five saves for D.C. Everest.

“Up front, the forward play of Amy Voight and Alison Gruen really pleased the coaches,” Lindner said. “They challenged the opponents as they had the ball and never gave up. Alison has been very consistent all year and even though her stats are not where they were last year, she is playing every bit as well. Amy has lifted her game another notch and earned every minute of playing time she gets.”

Marshfield wraps up its regular season next week with home games against Stevens Point on May 24 and Wisconsin Rapids on May 26.
