COLBY – The solid depth of the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls track and field team shined through as the Dons won three events and took the team title at the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track Meet on May 17 at Colby High School.

Mariah Heiman won the 100 meters in 13.57 seconds, and the 400 and 800 relay teams of Heiman, Lindsey Brandt, Abigail Gotz and Kayla Selz won conference titles in 53.38 seconds and 1:53.88, respectively, to lead the Dons to the team title.

The majority of Columbus Catholic’s points came from finishing high in almost every other event. Selz in the 100, Gotz in the 200, Deanna Kaiser in the 800, Claire Pinter in the 1,600 and 3,200, Diana Holzberger in the 100 hurdles, and the 3,200 relay team of Nikki Hertl, Pinter, Riley Roehl and Kaiser all finished second for the Dons.

Columbus scored 152.5 points, edging second-place Neillsville by seven points.

Spencer was fourth with 94 points, led by junior standout Kyleigh Hebert and freshman Marcie Hebert.

Kyleigh Hebert won the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, ¾ inches, and took second in the long jump (15-1½), while Marcie Hebert won the shot put (34-2¾) and the discus (129-5).

Gilman dominated the boys meet, piling up 193 points behind a handful of supreme athletes.

Cody Hodowanic (200, 400, long jump), Corey Tallier (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump) and Travis Gallick (800, high jump) won multiple titles for the Pirates, who scored 194 points, easily distancing themselves from second-place Neillsville (128). The Gilman trio were also part of the winning 1,600 relay team, along with teammate Cody Rosemeyer, who also won the pole vault.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic came in sixth place with 40.5 points and Spencer was eighth with 39.

Spencer won a pair of conference titles. The 400 and 800 relay teams of Austin Mueller, Rudy Nieman, Josh Olson and Josh Miller won events for the Rockets, finishing the races in 48.57 seconds and 1:41.13, respectively. Olson also took second in the triple jump (40-4).

Columbus Catholic had one title. The 3,200 relay team of David Cleveland, Travis Pischel, Travis Wienke and Tyler Derfus won the conference championship in 9:02.36.
