MERRILL – Marshfield’s Michael Josephson shot a 79 to finish fifth and grab a sectional qualifying spot at the WIAA Division 1 boys golf regional Tuesday at Merrill Country Club.
Josephson shot a 41 on the front 9 and a one-over par 38 on the back to earn a spot in next Tuesday’s sectional at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau.
Marshfield finished sixth as a team with a score of 343, 11 shots behind fourth-place Wausau West for the final team qualifying spot. D.C. Everest wno the meet with a 324, followed by Wausau East with a 326 and Antigo with a 329.
Other individual qualifiers were all from Rhinelander – Josh Willis (80), Bobby Montgomery (83) and A.J. Burrill (82).
Marshfield freshman Josh Berres missed qualifying for sectionals by one shot, shooting an 84. Other Tigers competing were Craig Serchen, who shot an 84 and Brandon Brown, who had a 92.
Joe Fronek of Antigo was the meet medalist, shooting a 72.
