MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team wrapped up a perfect four-game home stand on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Sparta Miller, winning by scores of 18-15 and 10-7 at Jack Hackman Field.
The Chaparrals improve to 7-1 after winning their third and fourth straight games, which all came at home this week. Marshfield beat Plover 4-2 on Wednesday and Tilden 9-4 on Friday night.
In Game 1, Marshfield was down 9-4 after 2½ innings before pounding Sparta pitching for eight runs in the fourth inning. Marshfield added four insurance runs in the sixth to win a wild one 18-15.
Casey Krohn was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored, and Sam Schwanebeck added a double, a home run and four RBIs for Marshfield.
Marshfield came from behind again in Game 2. The Chaparrals trailed 6-4 after 4½ innings before rallying with four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to beat Sparta in the second game of Saturday’s twinbill.
Justin Moroder was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and John Safford, Krohn and Cain Trunkel each had two hits for the Chaps. Trunkel knocked in three runs and scored twice.
Trunkel gave up just one run in seven innings to earn the win over Plover on Wednesday. He struck out four and scattered seven hits. Clint Rogers threw a pair of shutout innings to earn the save.
In the victory over Tilden on Friday night, Ryan Metz earned the victory after giving up three runs (one earned) in six innings. Krohn had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Chaps.
Marshfield is off until next Saturday when it plays at the Everest Merchants in Schofield at 7:30 p.m. The Chaparrals’ next home game is June 15 against Waupaca.
