MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team was roughed up by the Eau Claire Cavaliers on Wednesday night, dropping an 11-1 decision at Jack Hackman Field.
A four-run sixth inning by the Cavaliers (25-12) gave them a 7-0 lead and knocked out Marshfield pitcher Lucious Messerschmidt.
Marshfield scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Chuck Brehm. Eau Claire pitcher Jake Peterson was dominant, striking out 11 and scattering five hits in six innings.
Nolan Fadness, Mike Darley and John Ewald each had two RBIs for Eau Claire.
Marshfield (13-8) is back in action Friday at Hortonville and the Chaps host Chaseburg/Coon Valley for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hackman Field.
