ANTIGO – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls tennis team won four matches in straight sets and narrowly defeated Antigo 4-3 in its Great Northern Conference season opener Thursday.
Elizabeth Manlick won 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Abby Gotz and Nikki Hertel won 6-0, 6-1, to propel the Dons to the victory.
Scout Inman and Lydia McIntee also won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
“This was a very good match for us overall,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said. “We pulled out some good wins with tough play and a couple of our losses went down to the wire.”
Columbus hosts the Columbus Invitational on Saturday at Boson Courts near Marshfield High School.
