MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield cross country team held its annual Alumni/Intersquad Race on Saturday at Braem Park.
The current Marshfield girls team won as the Alumni team only had three participants, but the top two overall finishers.
Former Marshfield runners Amy Pawelko (12:12) and Jenna Southworth (12:31) took the top two spots, ahead of sophomore Rebecca Voss (12:50). The Tigers’ next four runners came in within eight seconds of each other – Sara Fuller (13:36), Jennifer Kaiser (13:37), Alexis Dzikowich (13:38) and Leah Cherney (13:44).
The Alumni men defeated the Marshfield boys 20-38 behind Adam Steinke (10:38) and Bryan Zimmerman (11:02).
Adam Voss led the current Tigers by taking third in 11:04.
“Overall, the boys team has their work cut out for them this year,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “I look for some big improvements from the boys in the coming weeks.
“I was pleased with our overall grouping today (for the girls). The girls are going to have some solid team depth this year. It should be an exciting year for them. We have a good group of over 30 girls on the team and that is going to lead to some good competition.”
Marshfield opens its season with a pair of meets at Wildwood Park in Marshfield – the Columbus Catholic Invitational on Sept. 3 and the Marshfield Invitational on Sept. 6.
