MINNEAPOLIS – A team of 12 masters runners, all over the age of 40, won the Great River Relay on Saturday.
The team, sponsored by RevelSports.com and Marshfield Clinic, won the grueling 194-mile race that started in Winona, Minn., went along the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers, and finished at East River Flats Park in Minneapolis.
The team of Mike Bauman, Tom Faciszewski and Steve Frericks of Marshfield, Scott Hansen, Perry Dau and Jay Punke of Wausau, Tim Olson of Stevens Point, Eddie Holzem of Greenville, Randy Damkot of Sheboygan, Jason Ryf of Oshkosh, Marc Gosselin of Portland, Ore., and Gregg Robertson of Duluth, Minn., set a course record of 19 hours, 59 minutes, 52 seconds (6:10 per mile average) to win the event for the second year in a row. A team of University of South Dakota cross country members finished second in 20:02:53.
The course was divided into 36 legs, with each team member running three legs ranging from 3 to 9.2 miles.
