MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls tennis team went 2-1 at its home invitational on Wednesday at Boson Courts.

The Tigers lost to Wisconsin Rapids 5-2 and defeated D.C. Everest 4-3 and Menomonie 6-1.

Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Cammie Warner and Victoria Jensen were a perfect 3-0. Megan Hayes (No. 1 singles), Emily Pingel (No. 3 singles) and the No. 2 doubles team of Erin Ott and Brittany Seidel each went 2-1 for the Tigers. The No. 3 doubles team of Justin Bushee and Kendall Stauber, Susan Luo at No. 2 singles and Bridgett Welter at No. 4 doubles each went 1-2.

“Megan Hayes displayed very fine tennis skills, but missed many winning shots by inches,” Marshfield coach Todd Lieberman said. “Good things lie ahead for Megan this year. Susan Luo participated in perhaps the most exciting match of the day, losing a two-set tiebreaker by two points in her best performance of the year.

“The duo of Cammy Warner and Victoria Jensen absolutely dominated play on Wednesday,” Lieberman added. “From the first point of the first set until closing the match out, it was apparent the duo of was not to be outdone.”

Marshfield is back in action Friday and Saturday at the Eau Claire Memorial Invitational.
