PITTSVILLE – Auburndale senior Danica Harrison won the girls race in 15 minutes, 44.9 seconds on Thursday at the Pittsville Cross Country Invitational.
Harrison defeated her nearest competitor, Pittsville’s Tory Palmer, by 10 seconds. Palmer finished 1:07.9 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Claire Pinter of Marshfield Columbus Catholic.
Harrison’s win, along with a sixth-place finish by Abby Bauer, helped the Apaches to a second-place finish in the team standings behind Pittsville.
Stratford finished sixth behind two top-15 finishes. Rachel Adank took 12th in 18:17.2 and Danielle Leffel was 15th in 18:36.2.
Spencer was seventh, led by Samanta Fuehrer’s 21st-place finish in 18:56.0.
Columbus only had four runners and didn’t qualify for the team standings.
Nekoosa dominated the boys race, with seven runners finishing in the top 11, including race winner Matt Eidenschink (16:19.5).
Auburndale finished third, led by Luke Haas, who took sixth in 17:07.8 and David Haas, who finished 14th in 19:06.9.
Columbus Catholic was fourth with its top five runners finishing between 20th and 31st. Jeremy Binder was the top runner for the Dons, taking 20th in 19:34.8.
Spencer took sixth and Stratford was seventh.
Danny Schubert led the Rockets by finishing 19th (19:34.2), and Mark Wenzel was Stratford’s top runner, taking 29th in 20:03.4.
