MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls tennis team dropped its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener, falling to Merrill 4-3 on Thursday at Boson Courts.
Megan Hayes posted the only singles win for the Tigers, edging Olivia Heit in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The Tigers posted a pair of doubles victories. Victoria Jensen and Cammie Warner won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-0, and Marshfield’s No. 2 doubles team of Brittani Seidel and Erin Ott was pushed to the brink before winning a third-set tiebreaker and beating Kelsey Pintens and Marissa Martz 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1).
Marshfield will compete in the Green Bay Southwest Invitational on Saturday and return to WVC action Tuesday at Stevens Point.
