OSHKOSH – The Marshfield football team continued its early-season dominance with a 49-18 rout of Oshkosh North on Friday at Titan Stadium in the teams’ first Valley Football Association South Division game.
Marshfield poured it on in the first quarter, scoring three touchdowns. Riley Gebelein, who ran for 147 yards on just 11 carries, scored on runs of 12 and 25 yards, and Elliot Ashbeck hit Jordan Schecklman for an 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers an early 21-0 lead.
North cut it to 21-10 before the Tigers’ offense got cranked up again.
Gebelein scored on runs of 60 and 3 yards and Ashbeck connected with Austin Littmann for a 12-yard scoring strike to push Marshfield’s lead to 42-10 at halftime.
Running back Ryan Trieweiler hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ashbeck with 2:11 to go in the third quarter to start the running clock with a lead of more than 35 points.
North scored on a 72-yard run by Julian Pope, his only carry of the game, but Marshfield’s reserves were able to protect the ball and the lead.
Without that late run by Pope, Marshfield held North to just 12 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Ashbeck continued his hot start to the season, completing 15 of 24 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers. He has 10 touchdown passes in the first three games of the season.
Marshfield (3-0, 1-0 VFA South), ranked No. 3 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 2 state coaches poll, will host Fond du Lac on Sept. 9 at Beell Stadium. Oshkosh North (1-2, 0-1 VFA South) plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Sept. 10.
