AUBURNDALE – Auburndale knocked off Spencer to reach the championship match but lost to Mosinee and placed second in the Auburndale Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at Auburndale High School.
Mosinee finished a perfect 5-0, with Auburndale and Spencer finishing 4-1.
Auburndale beat Spencer 25-15, 25-17, and finished 4-0 in pool play. Spencer, at 3-1 in pool play, qualified for the third-place match and knocked off Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 25-11, 25-14.
Spencer also defeated Necedah 25-12, 25-16; Florence 25-14, 26-24; and Prentice 25-13, 25-11.
Courtney Schulz led Spencer with 43 kills and nine blocks, Tara Matter added 30 kills and five blocks, and Alicia Endreas had a team-high eight aces for Spencer.
Kyleigh Hebert had 88 assists and Dani Johnson had 81 digs for the Rockets.
“We started the day a little slow – mentally, we weren’t ready to play,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “Once we settled down we really played good ball. Ky Hebert did a great job running our system as the day went on.”
Nicole Nikolay had 16 aces and 34 kills to lead Auburndale in both catagories.
Kimberly Kundinger added 10 kills and 10 aces, Kari Willfahrt added 19 kills and Kendra Kundinger had a team-high 72 assists for Auburndale.
Spencer returns to Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Tuesday when it hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic.
Auburndale hosts Edgar on Tuesday in a Marawood Conference South Division match.
