Marshfield girls tennis edges first-place Wausau East for first Valley win

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls tennis team came close in its first two Wisconsin Valley Conference matches this season but lost each match 4-3.

On Tuesday, the Tigers finally turned the tables and knocked off first-place Wausau East 4-3 to earn their first WVC victory and hand the Lumberjacks their first loss.

Marshfield moves up into fourth place in the conference standings, now with 20 points and a 1-2 record. East falls to 1-3 had has 36 points in the standings.

Marshfield won two singles and two doubles matches to earn the victory.

Megan Hayes won at No. 1 singles and Emily Pingel won at No. 3 singles for the Tigers. The No. 2 doubles team of Erin Ott and Brittany Seidel, and the No. 3 doubles team of Justin Bushee and Christine Philippe were also victorious.

Marshfield is at D.C. Everest on Thursday and hosts Wausau West next Tuesday.
