SPENCER – The Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic football team gave undefeated Eau Claire Regis a score, but in the end the Ramblers pulled away.
Regis jumped out to a 15-0 lead before the Rockets rallied to cut the lead to 15-12. However, the Ramblers scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and grabbed a 29-12 victory Friday night at Spencer High School.
Regis, ranked No. 3 in this week’s Division 6 WisSports.Net State Football Coaches Poll, improve to 5-0 overall and in the Cloverbelt Conference. Spencer/Columbus drops to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Bobby Mickelson scored on touchdown runs of 6 and 5 yards in the second quarter to push the Ramblers to a 15-0 lead.
Eathen Aden scored on an 18-yard run before halftime and Jordan Buss tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Josh Olson in the third quarter to get the Rockets within 3 with 12 minutes to go.
The Ramblers were able to hold Spencer/Columbus scoreless the rest of the way and added a pair of touchdowns to pad their lead.
Regis racked up 293 yards rushing and outgained Spencer/Columbus 386-175 overall. Mickelson led the way with 133 yards rushing on just 14 carries.
Charlie Mayeux led the Rockets with 54 yards on the ground, and Buss threw for 72 yards.
The Rockets play at Cadott next Friday.
