MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield High School cross country team will be running the game football from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids to Beell Stadium on Friday afternoon as part of Marshfield’s homecoming activities.

Members of the Tigers’ cross country team will begin this 36-mile journey from Lincoln High School to Marshfield in the middle of Friday afternoon and will arrive in time to present the game ball to the officials at the stadium.

The run will take about five hours to cover distance. The team will enter the stadium at 6:40 p.m. and present the game ball to the officials.

This marks the fifth time the team has done this in conjunction with homecoming activities.

Previously, the team has run the ball from Wausau West (1993), D.C. Everest
(1997) and Merrill on two separate occasions (2001 and 2006).

Three different groups will cover the distance with the first group running from Lincoln High School to Powers Bluff, the second group will run from Powers Bluff to Griese Park, and the final mile is from Griese Park to Beell Stadium.

“We have a great group of runners this year and I wanted to do something special for the seniors,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We only do this every four or five years and they remember it for a long time afterward. We don’t have a meet on Saturday so this is feasible with our schedule.”

Each member of the relay team will run the ball with a partner. Each team will run the ball on township roads in one-mile increments on a rotating basis, passing the football on to the next runner.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids in the homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday at Beell Stadium.
