Marshfield freshman, sophomore football teams each win again

The Marshfield freshman and sophomore football teams continued their strong seasons with victories on Thursday.

The Marshfield freshman shutout D.C. Everest 33-0 to finish its season with a perfect 7-0 record.

Caleb Alexander had 124 yards rushing and scored on touchdown runs of 10 and 40 yards, and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Derek Coffren. Coffren also tossed a 3-yard TD pass to Tanner Boson, and Jordan Schlinsog added a 9-yard scoring run for the Tigers. Jack Donahue kicked three extra points.

Mitch Zillman and Zach Hardinger led the Tigers in tackles and Trevor Heiman had an interception on defense.

The sophomore team beat Menasha 28-21 at Menasha behind three second-quarter touchdowns.

Keiron Howlett, who rushed for 82 yards, had a 10-yard touchdown run, Brad Krueger caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Colton Zahradka, and Jeff Allison scored on an 80-yard run on the final play of the first half to help the Tigers build a 20-7 lead.

Andy Wittmann had a 2-yard touchdown run and the Tigers added a two-point conversion on a pass from Zahradka to Travis Lutz to make it 28-7 after three quarters.

Zahradka finished 7 of 12 for 116 yards passing, and Allison had 96 yards rushing and 41 yard receiving for Marshfield.

Craig Zalizniak (10), Zach Meissner (9), Daulton Varsho (9) and Matt Rickman (7) led the Tigers in tackles. Mitch Ott recovered a fumble and Cullen Bump picked off two Menasha passes to help preserve the victory.

The Marshfield sophomores (7-1) finish its season on Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at Beell Stadium against Stevens Point.
