NEILLSVILLE – The Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic football team finds itself in the same position as it did the last two seasons – having to beat undefeated Colby in the final game of the season to gain a spot in the WIAA playoffs.
Spencer/Columbus whipped Neillsville 31-7 in a Cloverbelt Conference game Friday night at Neillsville High School to improve to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference. With a win next week at home against Colby (8-0, 7-0 Cloverbelt), the Rockets earn a spot in the playoffs. If S/C loses, it will have to wait to see if the WIAA grants a .500 conference team a playoff berth. The last two seasons, it didn’t happen for the Rockets.
Jordan Buss tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Josh Olson (56 and 24 yards), and the Rockets piled up 288 yards rushing as they dominated throughout.
Wyatt Phillips ran for 92 yards and a touchdown and Charlie Mayeux had 83 yards rushing and a score for Spencer/Columbus.
Buss finished 5-for-8 for 139 yards through the air.
