Auburndale’s Danica Harrison wins third straight Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet

SPENCER – Auburndale’s Danica Harrison rules the Marawood Conference again.

Harrison, a senior, won her third straight Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet title on Thursday at Frey Field, besting Pittsville’s Tory Palmer by 17.2 seconds in helping Auburndale to a second-place finish in the team standings behind Edgar. The Wildcats won its 15th straight girls team championship.

Chequamegon won its third straight boys team title.

Harrison won last year’s meet by 15 seconds over Edgar’s Lizzie Pospyhalla, who took seventh this year. Harrison ran in 15:32.2, three seconds better than the mark she set last year.

Abby Bauer was fifth for the Apaches in 16:40.4. Edgar had four of the top 11 runners to easily take the team title with 42 points. Auburndale had 74.

Stratford finished eighth. Danielle Leffel was the Tigers’ top runner, taking 43rd in 19:01.5.

The Auburndale boys took fourth and Stratford ran only four runners to finish with an incomplete team.

Luke Haas and David Hass led the Apaches, as they have all season, placing fourth and eighth, respectively.

Marathon’s Andrew Studinski, who took third last year, won the meet in 17:12.9, 16.4 seconds ahead of Chequamegon’s Charles Corbett. Steven Studinski of Marathon was third in 17:32.1, with Luke Haas fourth in 17:44.9 David Hass finished eighth in 18:03.1.

Mark Wenzel topped Stratford, taking 49th in 20:58.0.

Auburndale and Stratford will compete at the WIAA Division 3 sectional on Friday, Oct. 21, at Nine Mile Forest in Rib Mountain. The girls race begins at 4 p.m., with the boys to follow at 4:45 p.m.
