Marshfield sophomore football team wraps up 8-1 season with win over SPASH

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield sophomore football team finished its season with an 8-1 record after pounding Stevens Point Area Senior High 26-12 in a Valley Football Association South Division game Thursday at Beell Stadium.

Keiron Howlett ran 62 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for the Tigers and finished with 140 yards rushing on just six carries. Jeff Allison added 103 yards rushing on only five carries and scored on touchdown runs of 18, 2 and 69 yards for Marshfield Brad Krueger added a pair of extra points.

Luke Mahoney added another 87 yards on the ground on 12 carries as the Tigers racked up 337 yards rushing on only 31 attempts (10.9 yards per carry).

Coach Chris Fischer gave major credit to his offensive line of Tristian Wilson, Brad Schroeder, Jeff Bailey, Kyle Hoffmann and Denver Anderson, and tight ends Devin Zahradka and Travis Lutz for leading the way for the Marshfield running backs.

Mitch Ott had 21 tackles to lead the Tigers’ defense. Zach Meissner and Craig Zalizniak each had 11 tackles and Matt Rickman and Carsten Lovestad each had nine.
