STEVENS POINT – D.C. Everest senior Zoe Huddleston was the star but Wausau East was again the class of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Swim Meet, which was held Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Huddleston broke her own meet record she set last year in the 100 backstroke, winning in 58.22 seconds, won the 50 freestyle in 24.51 seconds and was part of the winning 400 and 200 freestyle relays for the Evergreens, who finished fourth in the team standings.
Wausau East got a pair of titles from Kendra Hilgemann (200 IM and 500 freestyle) as the Lumberjacks won their ninth straight WVC Meet championship.
East won the meet with 482 points. Wausau West was second with 407.5 and Wisconsin Rapids took third with 365.
Marshfield finished sixth among the seven teams with 177 points.
Megan Martoz led the Tigers, taking fourth in the 100 freestyle (56.87) and seventh in the 50 free (25.84). Marotz was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team, along with Paige Hawley, Emma Holbrook and Sarah Claessen, that took fourth in 3:58.87.
Holbrook had Marshfield’s top individual finish, taking second in the 100 backstroke behind Huddleston’s record-setting performance. Holbrook finished in 1:01.50.
Natalie Neuwirth of Stevens Point also wa s a double winner, taking first in the 200 freestyle (1:55.05) and the 100 freestyle (53.98).
Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional next Saturday at Hudson.
