Marshfield senior kicker Gus Utech has been named one of five finalists for the Kevin Stemke Award for the top high school senior kicker/punter in Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Sports Network and wissports.net.

Stemke was a standout at Green Bay Preble High School in the mid-1990s before moving on to the University of Wisconsin, where he was given the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top punter. Stemke played briefly with the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and the St. Louis Rams in 2004.

Joining Utech as finalists are Tom Barneson of Eau Claire Memorial, Santiago Lopez of Stanley-Boyd, Lucas Otto of Sun Prairie and Jack Russell of Waunakee.

Utech, a unanimous first-team All-Valley Football Association South Division kicker and second-team punter, made 7 of 13 field goals and 53 of 56 extra points this year for the Tigers. He has become a big weapon for Marshfield pinning opponents at the 20-yard line following kickoffs this season, averaging 58.3 yards per kickoff.
