HUDSON – Marshfield junior Emma Holbrook just missed out on a state meet berth, finishing third in the 100 backstroke Saturday at the WIAA Division 1 girls swimming sectional at Hudson High School.
Holbrook finished third in the race in 1:01.24, 2.24 seconds behind D.C. Everest’s Zoe Huddleston.
Winners and the next 18 best times in each event from the six Division 1 sectionals will compete at the WIAA State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships next Saturday, Nov. 12, at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison.
Holbrook finished 0.69 seconds behind the 18th and final extra qualifier in the 100 backstroke.
Marshfield had two other individual top-10 finishes, both from Megan Marotz. She finished eighth in the 100 butterfly in 56.55 seconds and 10th in the 50 freestyle in 25.92 seconds.
Devin Cicha of Hudson (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Leah Pronschinske of Eau Claire Memorial (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke) and Natalie Neuwirth of Stevens Point (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) were double winners.
Pronschinske was also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams for Memorial, helping them to the team title.
