SPENCER – Spencer senior Courtney Schulz, coming off the Rockets’ first WIAA state tournament appearance since 1974, signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at NCAA Division II Minnesota State University in Mankato next fall.

Schulz, a first-team all-Cloverbelt Conference East Division selection and an honorable mention all-state choice by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association, surpassed 1,000 career kills during Spencer’s WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal win over Cadott last month. The Rockets went on to sweep through the Division 3 playoffs all the way to the state championship match before losing a 3-2 slugfest with Grantsburg.

Minnesota State is ranked No. 20 in the national Division II poll and is 19-8 overall and 12-7 in the Northern Sun Conference after a win Friday against Bemidji State. The Mavericks play No. 2-ranked Minnesota-Duluth in their regular season finale on Saturday.
