MARSHFIELD – Nicole Karl scored the only goal of the game on a power play in the third period to lead the Marshfield girls hockey team to a 1-0 win over the No. 8-ranked Eau Claire Area Stars on Friday at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Center.
“I feel we played very well as a team and we are right where we want to be going in to this week’s regional with the Northern Edge,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “After the game the girls were euphoric, yet very respectful of the team the played. We had a huge crowd from Marshfield and it was just an all-around good night for these girls.”
Karl scored on an assist by Paige Johnson at the 7:06 mark of the third period after both teams failed to find the net.
Ashley Bauer had 18 saves for Marshfield, including seven in the decisive final period.
Marshfield (11-7-1) hosts the Northern Edge (Rhinelander/Antigo) on Thursday in a WIAA regional final at 7 p.m.
