Colby edges Auburndale girls basketball

AUBURNDALE – Sarah Gamillo scored 11 points to lead Colby to a 34-29 win over Auburndale in a nonconference girls basketball game Friday night at Auburndale High School.

The game was tight throughout and neither team had more than a three-point advantage in any quarter. The difference was that Colby won three of the four quarters and was able to hold Auburndale to four points in the fourth quarter to gain the win.

The Hornets (1-0) used a 15-12 advantage to open up a 28-25 lead going into the fourth, where Auburndale had just two baskets.

Becky Willfahrt, Nicole Nikolay and Emma Steines each scored seven points for the Apaches (1-1).

Auburndale hosts Iola-Scandinavia in another nonconference game on Tuesday before opening Marawood Conference South Division play Dec. 13 at Edgar.
