Stratford girls basketball team rips Phillips in season opener

STRATFORD – Carrie Stroetz had 17 points and six rebounds, Sara Griesbach added 14 points and Hannah Schmitt tossed in 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Stratford girls basketball team to a 64-30 rout of Phillips in a nonconference game Friday night at Stratford High School.

Stroetz made 9 of 10 free throws, Griesbach hit three 3-pointers and Brooke Schultze had five points, nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals to lead the Tigers to the season-opening win.

Stratford jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, opened it up to 36-20 by halftime and put the game away with a 20-5 third quarter.

The Tigers host Pittsville on Tuesday in their Marawood Conference South Division opener.
