Chequamegon/Phillips snaps Marshfield boys hockey win streak at four

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team was seeking its first 5-0 start in school history, but Chequamegon/Phillips put an end to the Tigers’ win streak with a wild 5-4 overtime win Saturday afternoon at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Center.

Blake Pluemer scored on an assist from Joshua Lemke 45 seconds into overtime to give C/P the victory and send Marshfield to its first loss of the season. The Tigers fall to 4-1, while C/P improves to 3-0.

Marshfield trailed 2-0 early before Bobby Leggon scored near the end of the first period to get the Tigers on the scoreboard.

Zach Leggon added a goal 1:50 into the second period and Schuyler Seyfert continued his hot start to the season with a pair of goals in a 4-minute stretch to give Marshfield a 4-2 lead.

The Screaming Eagles rallied with a pair of goals in the third period, the final one coming with just 8 seconds left in regulation by Chad Schmantz.

Mac Alboreo had 18 saves in goal for Marshfield.

Chequamegon/Phillips goalie Kristen Pechacek made 34 saves in the win.

Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule Thursday at home against D.C. Everest.
