Marshfield wrestlers win four titles, take second at Campbellsport Invitational

CAMPBELLSPORT – The Marshfield wrestling team had four first-place finishes and finished second in the team standings Saturday at the Campbellsport Invitational.

Mitch Hertel (132 pounds), Ian Gaertner (145), Austin Mahoney (160) and Justin Sternweis (182) won titles for the Tigers.

Hertel won by technical fall and major decision to win the title at 132. He defeated Jake Balassi of Sheboygan South 13-1 in the finals.

Gartner had a pin and a technical fall, then defeated Clark Kelley of Campbellsport 6-3 in the 145-pound title match.

Mahoney pinned his first two opponents, then knocked off Blake Slayton of Beaver Dam 1-0 to take the 160-pound championship.

Sternweis received a first-round bye, earned a first-period pin and won the 182-pound championship match 6-1 over Nick Veling of Brookfield Central.

Devon Klement (113) and Toran Nieman (138) lost in their respective championship matches to finish second. Klement lost to Nick Stahl of Campbellsport 5-1 and Nieman dropped a 5-1 decision to Rashaun Sparks of Campbellsport.

Brandon Baltus (152), Kane Seubert (170), Tom Gershman (195) and Dylan Boden (220) each finished third for Marshfield.

Tristan Wilson (285) took fifth and Aaron Sternweis (120) and Luke Mahoney (126) each finished sixth for the Tigers.

Marshfield is at Wausau West on Thursday in its Wisconsin Valley Conference season debut and will be at the Neenah Invitational next Saturday.
