Marshfield alum Danielle Carlson shines for Marquette University in NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Danielle Carlson, a junior middle hitter, had a team-high 11 kills in Marquette University’s 3-0 loss to Illinois in a NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament second-round match Saturday night at the University of Illinois’ Huff Hall.

Carlson, a 2009 graduate of Marshfield High School, had 10 kills in the Golden Eagles’ 3-1 win over Western Kentucky in the first round of the tournament on Friday.

Marquette (24-11), playing in its first NCAA Tournament, beat Western Kentucky 25-21, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, before dropping its second-round match to No. 7 seed Illinois 25-13, 25-23, 25-22.

Carlson played in all 126 sets this season for the Golden Eagles, finishing third on the team in kills with 349, first in attack percentage at .385 percent, fifth in service aces with 16, sixth in digs with 66, and first in total blocks with 98.
