MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, dropping an 82-70 decision to UW-Rock County at the Marauder Gym.

Ashley Pongratz scored 23 points and Paige Albrecht had 20 points, five assists and seven steals to lead the Marauders. Bailey Klieforth added five assists for Marshfield, which falls to 8-1 this season.

Rock County hit 14 3-pointers in the victory.

“Take half of them (the 3-pointers) away and this would have been a different ball game,” Marauders coach Rhonda Keding said. “I can’t take anything away from my girls. They kept fighting until the end, but we just couldn’t catch a break tonight. I’m proud of the girls for hanging in there.”

The Marauders are back in action Saturday afternoon at UW-Fox Valley in Menasha.
