Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team pulls away to beat Neillsville

MARSHFIELD – Tyler Derfus scored five of his 10 points and Mike Iwanski made three key free throws in the fourth quarter to lead the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team to a 40-28 win over Neillsville in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Derfus hit a pair of baskets, including a 3-pointer, and Iwanski made three of four free throws in the final 8 minutes to help the Dons pull away. Columbus (4-1, 2-0 Cloverbelt East) led 27-23 heading into the fourth before outscoring the Warriors (0-3 overall and Cloverbelt East) 13-5 in the final period.

Derfus and Iwanski each finished with a game-high 10 points. D.J. Cleveland added seven, including three in the fourth.

Logan Mabie and Matthew Dux each scored seven points to lead Neillsville.

Columbus is back in action Tuesday at Spencer.
