MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team are keeping up in the drama department this season.

In its first loss of the season, the Tigers gave up a goal in the final seconds of regulation and eventually lost in overtime.

On Thursday, Marshfield was the one that sent the game into an extra period with a late goal. However, the result was the same as the Tigers suffered a 4-3 loss to D.C. Everest in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.

Trailing 3-1, the Tigers’ Schuyler Seyfert scored with 2:50 remaining and Zac Alboreo tied up the game with a goal with just 8 seconds remaining to put it into overtime.

However, just 11 seconds into overtime, D.C. Everest’s Joe Patterson scored to give the Evergreens their fifth straight win to start the season and second straight in the Valley. Marshfield falls to 4-2 overall.

Everest led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Colin Helke and Cole Halligan.

Marshfield cut the deficit in half when Seyfert scored off assists by Austin Littmann and Bobby Leggon at the 11:08 mark of the second period.

Everest pushed the lead back to two when Nate Bruns scored 2:22 into the third period, but the Tigers were able to respond.

Mac Alboreo had 11 saves in the third period to keep it close and the Tigers pushed it to overtime with the two late goals, both coming on the power play. Seyfert’s goal was on assists from Littmann and Leggon again, and Zach Alboreo’s game-tying goal was unassisted just before the final buzzer.

Mac Alboreo finished with 25 saves, while Everest goalie Andy Mahler had 16.

The Tigers now have a week off before playing at Wisconsin Rapids next Thursday.
