OWEN – Spencer used a 15-0 advantage in the first quarter to pull away early and held off Owen-Withee the rest of the way in a 50-35 win in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Owen-Withee High School.
Jeremiah Cattanach scored a season-high 12 points and Steven Gilboy added 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rockets, who improve to 2-1 overall and in the conference. Owen-Withee falls to 1-1 overall and in the Cloverbelt East.
Spencer led 15-0 after the first quarter only to see the Blackhawks close the gap to 22-16 with a 16-7 advantage in the second.
The Rockets recovered and outscored O-W 28-19 in the second half to earn their second win of the season.
Spencer shot just 41.9 percent (18 of 43), but held the Blackhawks to just 27.4 percent (14 of 51) and had a 29-22 rebounding advantage.
Spencer hosts first-place Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Tuesday.
