Stratford wrestlers rally to knock off Nekoosa

STRATFORD – The Stratford wrestling team rallied with four wins in the final five matches to defeat Nekoosa 35-30 in a nonconference match Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Clay Lieber pinned Ryan Adank at 106 pounds to five Nekoosa a 26-18 lead with five matches left before the Tigers came on strong.

Matt Krall had a pin at 113 pounds, and after Nekoosa grabbed a major decision and four more points, Stratford closed out the match with a 6-3 win by Phil Sersch at 126, a 19-3 technical fall victory by Alex Heiden at 132 and a 14-8 victory by Steve Marquardt at 138.

Kellen Bornbach (160) and Caleb Bryant (220) also had pins for the Tigers, and Dondrick Tackes (182) and Andrew Murdaugh (285) won decisions.

Stratford will be at the Weyauwega-Fremont Invitational on Saturday.
