WAUSAU – Wausau Newman Catholic used a 13-1 run in the first quarter to pull away from Auburndale early and cruise to a 46-22 win in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Newman Catholic High School.
Newman pushed its lead to 20-8 by halftime and the Apaches didn’t score more than eight points in any quarter.
Emma Steines, Melanie Brandl and Kendra Kundinger each scored four points for the Apaches, who made just 7 of 32 shots from the field.
Newman (6-0, 4-0 Marawood South) had 20 steals, eight by Sarah Connolly. Connolly led the way with 14 points and Grace Kennedy added 11 for the Cardinals.
Auburndale (3-3, 1-2 Marawood South) hosts Mosinee on Dec. 29.
