WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls basketball team won its fourth straight game, edging Wausau West 48-41 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest Tuesday at Wausau West High School.
The Tigers used a 19-13 third quarter to open up a 40-30 lead and held off the Warriors the rest of the way.
Leah Ripp scored a team-high 12 points for the Tigers, making 4 of 8 shots from 3-point range. Freshman Ellie Fehrenbach added nine points, Taylor Varsho had seven points and Tiffany Stargardt scored six points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for Marshfield (4-1, 2-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
Katrina Cihlar led Wausau West with 10 points.
The Tigers are off until Wednesday, Dec. 28 when they host Wausau Newman Catholic in the opening round of the Marshfield Holiday Tournament. Oshkosh West and Green Bay Preble will play the opening game at 6 p.m., with Marshfield and Newman to follow at 7:45 p.m.
The third-place game of the tournament will be held Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3:15 p.m., with the championship game slated for 5:30 p.m.
