RICHLAND CENTER – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s and men’s basketball teams returned from its winter break with a pair of losses at UW-Richland on Wednesday night.
Paige Albrecht scored 31 points to lead the depleted Marauders women, fall to 10-3 this season after playing with only five players in a 62-54 loss to UW-Richland.
Tiffany Becker had eight points, Heather Adrian grabbed 11 rebounds and Marissa Draxler scored eight points and had five steals for UW-Marshfield.
“The ladies fought hard throughout the game,” Marshfield coach Rhonda Keding said. “We only had five playing the whole game and came into foul trouble at the end. We finished with three players. There’s not much you can do when that happens.”
The UW-Marshfield/Wood County men’s team lost 81-71 to Richland.
Jake Scheppler had 25 points and Jesse Bejcek added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Marauders (6-5).
The Marauders poured in 45 second-half points but trailed by 16 at halftime and couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Leo Braun added 12 points and Brandon Herr had 11 for Marshfield.
The UW-Marshfield men host the Marauder Classic on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, while the women are off until Jan. 18 when they play at UW-Marinette.
