SHEBOYGAN – The developing depth of the Marshfield boys swim team is paying off as the Tigers finished second at the Sheboygan South Red Wing Invitational on Saturday.
Sheboygan South won the meet with 426.5 points, with Marshfield finishing second with 291.5 points. Sheboygan North was third with 272.5 points.
The Tigers’ team of Aaron Scheets, Michael Josephson, Tom Stevning-Roe and Jake Akin won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.45, and Scheets won the 100 backstroke in 58.26 seconds.
Scheets placed second in the 200 IM (2:10.50), Akin was fourth in the 100 freestyle (54.02), and Josephson finished sixth in the 100 free (54.12).
Following Scheets’ win, Stevning-Roe took fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:02.01), Josephson was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.56), and the 400 relay team of Scheets, Stevning-Roe, Josephson and Akin finished second in 3:35.90.
“Our depth continued throughout our team,” Marshfield coach Faye Egger said. “It was the seventh, eighth and ninth place finishes that added to the total to place second in the meet where we didn’t even have diving.”
The Tigers host D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
