MARSHFIELD – Paige Johnson scored Marshfield’s long goal and Alexis Straughan made 33 saves in goal as the Tigers tied Northland Pines 1-1 in a Great Northern Conference girls hockey game Monday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Center.

The Tigers move to 6-5-1 and 4-2-1 in the GNC, while Northland Pines goes to 7-4-1 and 4-1-1 in the conference.

“Tonight the girls came out hard and were really excited to play this game,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “It was a great atmosphere in the locker room and on the bench. Senior defense Emily Wolfe and forward Nicole Karl had their best games of the year, along with solid performances once again from Paige Johnson, and freshman goaltender Alexis Straughan.

“Emily had a really nice game, being smart with the puck and communicating well with her forwards. It was nice to see that kind of leadership on the ice and on the bench.”

Wolfe assisted on Johnson’s goal.

Kim Van Brunt had 29 saves for Northland Pines.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Beaver Dam on Friday.
