Auburndale girls basketball team falls at Nekoosa in double overtime

NEKOOSA – Kendra Marcouex scored seven of her team-high 17 points in the two overtime periods and led Nekoosa to a 42-38 win over Auburndale in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Nekoosa High School.

The game was tight throughout, with Nekoosa holding the biggest lead at the end of any period – 17-14 – at halftime. Auburndale forced overtime at 29-29 and after each team scored five points in the first extra period, the Papermakers (9-4) outscored the Apaches 8-4 in the second OT to earn the victory. Auburndale had its four-game winning streak snapped and falls to 7-4 on the season.

Nicole Nikolay led all scorers with 18 points for Auburndale, which made just 13 of 42 shots from the field and 12 of 21 free throws, but stayed in the game with a tough defensive effort. Nekoosa made just 7 of 18 free throws, including all three of its attempts in the fourth quarter as the Apaches forced overtime.

Mikayla Jankowski scored seven points and had eight rebounds for Auburndale.

Auburndale plays at Stratford on Thursday.
