MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield JV boys basketball team overcame another slow start and outlasted Holmen 49-47 in a nonconference game Monday night at Marshfield High School.
Jeff Allison and Craig Serchen each scored 12 points and Caleb Alexander added 10 for the Tigers, who won their sixth straight game and improve to 7-4 overall.
Marshfield didn’t make a field goal in the first nine minutes of the game but hung close with solid defense and trailed only 5-3 after one quarter and 18-12 at halftime.
After the sluggish first half, Marshfield exploded for 37 points in the second half and escaped with the two-point victory.
The Tigers made just 13 of 30 shots from the field but for the second game in a row made hay at the free throw line. Marshfield finished 23 of 35 at the line, while Holmen was just 4 of 9.
