MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team rebounded from a close loss Saturday to beat UW-Marathon County 76-62 on Monday night.

The Marauders (9-6) trailed by one point at halftime, 28-27, before exploding for 49 second-half points in the victory.

Brandon Herr scored 24 points, Jake Scheppler had 21, Leo Braun added 14 and Jesse Bejcek scored 10 for UW-Marshfield.

Ryan Wokatsch led UW-Marathon County with 19 points.

Paige Albrecht had 34 points and Bailey Kleiforth had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the UW-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team’s 82-78 loss to UW-Marathon County.

Heather Adrian added 13 rebounds for the Marauders (11-4).

“I am so proud of these ladies,” Marauders coach Rhonda Keding said. “They play hard and at the end when we had three players left they still played like we were playing with five. Marathon kept turning the ball over where they could have easily ranked up points on us.”

Albrecht fouled out with 9 minutes left and Marissa Draxler fouled out with 4 minutes to go.

“I am proud of these girls how well they played considering Marathon is in first place and they beat us last time by 25 points.”

The UW-M/WC women’s and men’s teams play a doubleheader at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake next Monday.
