Jake Akin wins 100 freestyle title, Marshfield third at 2012 Wisconsin Valley Conference boys swim meet

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys swim team finished third at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and ended up third overall in the conference standings.

Stevens Point won the meet with 384 points, edging Wausau East (353). Marshfield was third with 263 points. East won the overall conference title, which is a combination of dual meet and WVC Meet results.

Jake Akin was the lone Tiger to win a Wisconsin Valley Conference title, taking first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.84 seconds.

Marshfield’s Aaron Scheets finished second in the 200 IM (2:08.30) and 100 backstroke (56.05), and Akin took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.50 seconds.

Alex Shulman was third in the 50 freestyle (24.16) and the 200 medley relay team of Scheets, Josh Herron, Tom Stevning-Roe and Akin was third in 1:48.81 for the Tigers.

“Everyone was swimming very strong,” Marshfield coach Faye Egger said. “Next week’s (sectional) meet in Hudson should be even faster.”

Egger was named co-coach of the year along with Bree Sandquest of D.C. Everest.

Scheets and Billy Brebrick of Wausau East were named co-swimmers of the year in the Valley.
