The Marshfield girls hockey team will open the WIAA playoffs at home on Feb. 16.
The Tigers (11-5-1) earned a No. 4 seed and will host Medford (8-10-1) in a WIAA regional final on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Center. The two teams also will play at Marshfield on Friday in the Great Northern Conference regular-season finale.
The winner of the Marshfield-Medford regional final moves on to a sectional semifinal on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against the winner of No. 1 seed Central Wisconsin Storm and No. 8 seed Lakeland. The sectional final is slated for Friday, Feb. 24, at Tomahawk.
The Marshfield boys hockey team (8-10-1) was given the No. 5 seed and will play a WIAA regional final on Feb. 16 at No. 4 seed Chequamegon/Phillips (17-3). The two teams met on Dec. 3 with Chequamegon/Phillips edging the Tigers 5-4 in overtime.
The winner of that regional final will play the winner of No. 1 seed Eau Claire Memorial and either Ashland or Hayward in a sectional semifinal on Feb. 21. The sectional final is set for Saturday, Feb. 25, at Hobbs Arena in Eau Claire.
The WIAA State Boys Hockey Tournament will be March 1-3 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The WIAA State Girls Hockey Tournament will be held March 2-3 at the same venue.
